WEIGHT GAIN
Lower testosterone levels can lead to a reduction in muscle mass, decreasing the body's resting metabolic rate. A lower resting metabolic rate makes it easier to gain weight. Low testosterone is also associate with increased visceral fat (fat stored around the internal organs), increasing the risk of obesity-related health conditions.
FATIGUE AND DECREASED ENERGY
Men with low testosterone often report feeling unusually tired or lacking energy. Testosterone is vital in regulating energy metabolism and sleep quality, and deficiencies in testosterone can result in disrupted sleep and insomnia causing daytime fatigue. Medical History
We will inquire about the symptoms listed above and any underlying health conditions. Some medications can cause erectile dysfunction and decreased sex drive, so a list of current medications will also be requested at your first visit.
Laboratory testing
Testosterone levels can fluctuate throughout the day, typically peaking in the morning. For this reason, blood samples should be taken between 7am-10am for most accurate results, this will be performed in office. Testosterone levels and additional hormone tests will be performed. If you have not had routine blood work to check for blood disorders, liver function in the last year, this will also be performed.
Testosterone Injections
Testosterone cypionate is a synthetic form of the naturally occurring male sex hormone testosterone and is commonly used to treat low testosterone levels. Benefits include improved libido, improved sexual performance, improved mood and energy, improved bone density, increased muscle mass. Testosterone can affect sperm count, for this reason if you are attempting to conceive with your partner, this medication should be avoided.
Gonadorelin
Gonadorelin is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH) which stimulates the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) which through a cascade of events, increase the body's testosterone production. Gonadorelin can be used in conjunction with testosterone to reduce risk of testicular shrinkage, and can be used for younger men who want to maintain their fertility. Besides reducing testicular shrinkage and aiding in fertility, gonadorelin has also been shown to improve libido and increase muscle mass.
Clomid
Clomid can be an effective alternative to testosterone injection therapy, it is a selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) which boosts FSH and LH hence increasing testosterone levels. It is used off-label for men to treat infertility and low testosterone. Clomid is a great option for young men who are planning to start a family as it increases sperm production.
